Home tour: ode to color and volumes

In the heart of the 16th arrondissement of Paris, in the very chic Muette district, Bertille and Pierre, loyal Junot customers, welcome us into the Haussmann-style apartment with a warm and family atmosphere that they recently renovated. Bertille, interior designer for the @studio-pereine and Pierre, founder of a start-up, have completely redesigned the volumes of this 200 m² apartment in order to restore its former character, but also to suit today's taste.

Why did you choose this apartment?

Pierre : We were looking as a priority for 4 bedrooms without making concessions on the living rooms, it was an important criterion for us. We also wanted to find the Haussmannian codes with volume in a luxury building. As for the neighborhood, La Muette stood out to us because of its proximity to good schools and the Ranelagh garden.

How did you think about the layout of this apartment?

Bertille : This apartment was renovated in the 1960s by the previous owners. We decided to give it a makeover by completely renovating it. In six months of work, the objective was twofold. On the one hand, rework the plan starting with the entrance gallery, then the triple reception, while keeping as a constraint our wish to have four bedrooms including a master bedroom. We also wanted to restore the character of this Haussmann style by reintroducing herringbone parquet flooring, as well as moldings, and by enhancing the fireplaces. After the work, we were able to regain the initial harmony of this Haussmann style which had disappeared, while adding decoration up to date.

Color has an important place in this apartment, how was it thought of?

Bertille : Regarding the decoration, we started by selecting the wallpapers, then the paints, the fabrics and finally the furniture. The idea was to add strong shades and colors to this ensemble, in order to highlight the moldings. The wallpaper is a very important element for me in this apartment, because I don't like living in white which can seem cold. I like my eye to focus on colors and patterns.

Here we have mainly selected floral and animal shapes. In the living room, we find English-style wallpaper selected for its landscape and its colors from the Coordonné house, "Puente" model in Pistachio color, to be found on Étoffe. In the dining room, two panels of gold-colored silk wall fabric, offered by Nobilis, restore all the prestige to this room. In the kitchen and the pantry, we wanted to combine two wallpapers which provide a soft and warm atmosphere with the "Nell" model from Eijffinger and the "Décor" from Montecolino. Finally, in the hallway, our choice fell on a very graphic paper from Papier des 70s.

The colors of the paints combine harmoniously with the shades of the papers, a current favorite for the ultra matte shades from Libéron. These are high quality wall paints, based on natural ingredients, including casein, which allows you to have a very deep black in the entrance gallery or this very pretty “edelweiss” white in the living room. We find shades of green/pink in the living room, green/terracotta in the kitchen and strong greens/blues in the bedrooms for a more soothing feel. This continuity of colors contributes to the overall harmony of the 200 m² apartment.

What characteristics do we find in this apartment?

Pierre : We wanted to have a technically up-to-date apartment with a complete overhaul of the electricity incorporating home automation, a kitchen with a real induction cooker and a wine cellar for added pleasure.

How was it done the choice of furniture?

Bertille : For the layout of the double reception, we mixed new and antique furniture from designers or mainstream brands. The sofa comes from Nobilis, an iconic “le Saint-Honoré” model with a very Parisian look. The pretty tortoiseshell sideboard comes from Sarah Lavoine and makes the link with the dining room. Fun, the "marshmallow" side tables from &Klevering can be end tables, a seat or a display. In this interior, they bring a modern and arty touch to this “classic” room. Finally, I couldn't resist finding a green velvet loveseat chair on Selency that I placed in a corner of the living room to relax, read quietly or contemplate the hustle and bustle of the city.

What is your favorite piece in this apartment?

Pierre : The large, very friendly and elegant living room for entertaining friends and for the warm atmosphere that one feels as a family while watching a good film.

Bertille : The kitchen is my favorite room during the visit with its bow window and its brightness. It’s a pleasant room to live in where you enjoy cooking.

What is neighborhood life like? at la Muette?

Pierre : Apart from green spaces and schools, we have many food businesses, particularly along Avenue Mozart and Rue de l'Annonciation. This part of western Paris also offers a welcome escape from the urban hustle and bustle with the Bois de Boulogne.
