Home Tour: put the view in the spotlight

A stone's throw from the Eiffel Tower, in the heart of the Grenelle district, Marjan Denkov, interior architect and designer, opens the doors of her 68 m² apartment to us offering a breathtaking view of the tree-lined banks of the Seine. Currently available for sale, this turnkey property has been completely renovated by the architect who transformed it into a true haven of peace, far from the hustle and bustle of Paris.

What appealed to you about this apartment ?

I was immediately won over by the clear view over the banks of the Seine, the light which magnifies the different rooms and the quiet bedroom on the courtyard side. In addition, I immediately identified the great untapped potential of the volumes.

How did you think this apartment ?

My main objective was to restore the Haussmann character of the apartment. I therefore reinstated characteristic elements such as moldings, a honey-colored herringbone parquet floor and a white marble fireplace. To this, I associated contemporary comfort with reversible air conditioning, a double ceiling with thermal and sound insulation to the latest standards, as well as triple glazing. The corridor was widened to accommodate storage and pieces of furniture were custom-designed to maximize the use of space and streamline circulation. Regarding the materials, I favored noble elements such as marble, brass, wood worked in marquetry to elegantly enhance every corner of the apartment.

Your radiators are strong pieces that fit perfectly into the layout. What is their particularity?

Not having found radiators that met my expectations, I made the decision to design them custom-made by collaborating with certain craftsmen in my repertoire. Beyond their heating function, these radiators are real sculptures, unique pieces. Thanks to them, we won the Best Innovative Design Award at the Architectural Digest Design Show held in New York in 2017.

In which room of your apartment do you feel the best?

I particularly like the double living room and its strong design pieces which provide a lot of contrast. The two openings onto the tree-lined perspective give me a feeling of escape.

What were your sources of inspiration?

I wanted to highlight the breathtaking view of the quays. So I integrated mirrors in several places, creating reflections that invite nature inside. Although the style remains resolutely Parisian, I delicately sprinkled touches of green here and there, bringing a subtle vegetal touch to the whole.

Why did you choose the Grenelle district?

My main wish was to live in the heart of Paris, to have access to all local shops, while enjoying the calm of my apartment. I quickly adopted this neighborhood, with my gym, cafes, grocery stores, and numerous walking options. It’s a place where you feel truly good, both family-friendly and lively.
