The keep, founded in the early 12th century by Robert de Droizy and raised higher in the 14th century, rises to around 22 meters and dominates the Soissonnais plateau, offering an exceptional view over the region's built and natural heritage. It is surrounded by the remains of a fortified enclosure dating from the 14th and 15th centuries.
In the 15th century, the château belonged to the "knave of hearts" Étienne de Vignolles, known as La Hire, a famous companion-in-arms of Joan of Arc, who acquired it through his marriage in 1436 to Marguerite David. His widow later married Jean de Courtenay, a descendant of Louis VI the Fat, in 1444.
